Kenya has a rich legacy of producing exceptional coffees, with small-scale farmers responsible for about 70% of its high-quality coffee production. Much of this prized coffee is exported and sold through the Nairobi Coffee Exchange, where buyers bid on lots at auction. This method helps maintain higher prices for Kenyan growers compared to the volatility of the global coffee market. Coffee remains a vital source of jobs, revenue, and national pride for Kenya.

This coffee is grown on the high plateaus surrounding Mount Kenya, at an elevation of over a mile high. It is a blend of green beans from many small regional producers. As with other coffee origins, Kenyan coffees are graded - AA is the highest grade, indicating large, dense beans with few defects. The "Plus" grade means this particular coffee has minimal defects and an exceptionally high cupping score, making it one of our most prized offerings. While the price is more than other coffees we offer, it reflects this coffee's rare auction lot status, artisanal quality, and Kenya's reputation for uniquely flavorful, highly sought-after beans.
